Bounty Box
We’ve got a fantastic market downtown about a block from my office and they carry a great selection of local produce, meats, cheeses, bread and even chocolate. Last winter we discovered their Bounty Box program, a weekly box of fruits, veggies and herbs. It’s a subscription service so you sign up for the entire season. The Root Cellar contracts with farmers all across the state—as well as local community gardens right here in town—and we benefit from all their hard work.
Not only was it a treat to have so much fresh produce last winter, we really learned to expand our horizons when it came to what we ate for dinner. Now that it’s the height of summer, we’re no longer receiving salad greens, winter squash and pumpkins but are inundated with tomatoes, eggplants and peaches. This week’s box included hot peppers, tomatoes, salad greens, summer squash, peaches, and sandwich basil—with leaves so large I initially mistook it for lettuce.
Not sure what’s on the menu this week but I’m hoping to convince Jonathan to mix up another batch of his gazpacho!
