House Archeology

Just as we spent weeks agonizing over whether to paint the living room gold, only to find that it was one of the original colors of the room, we spent months looking for the perfect exterior shade only to discover remnants of that same shade as we began prepping to paint. We selected Bunglehouse Gray for the body.

As I began removing our address, it became clear that the white porch trim had once been just about the same shade (the online color swatch is a little more olive green than the actual paint). I found a bit of this color on the porch steps as well.

Address

It was an interesting finding, mainly because I had simply assumed the trim had always been white—the former color truly clashes with the mint green of the house. It’s possible that the body of the house was also once a nice Arts & Crafts color but try as we might, we couldn’t find a bit of wood siding that was anything but mint green.

Address

At any rate, it was a fairly old color. The screws used to attached the address had long since rusted away and Jonathan had to pull off the plastic numbers and simply saw the screws flush to the wood. New numbers are on order and we’re hoping no one needs to find us before then.
